Planting seeds of compassion for animals on Earth Day
Schools around the world celebrate Earth Day in different ways, teaching children how they can make a difference to our planet. This year the Loyal.D team was invited by Eton House 717 to host a Painting with Pooches session as part of their Earth Day 2016 celebrations to plant a seed of compassion in the children for animals. Initiated by the school principal Ms. Renee Sim and her staff, motivated the students and parents to come together and raise funds for a local animal shelter in Singapore OSCAS - Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter.
Held on Friday, 22nd of April 2016, the teachers and young children of Eton House 717 opened their campus to host the Loyal.D team and two puppies from OSCAS, Pepper & Gooey, for a morning of creativity, fun and gentle interaction. For most of the children the interaction with the affectionate (and very patient) pups was a unique and new experience.
Besides Painting with Pooches, the children had prepared snacks and drinks (with some help from their teachers, of course) and through this active participation, more than S$1100 was raised! This money will be used by OSCAS to pay for the medical bills and general health of the more than 100 dogs in their care.
Pepper & Gooey, the two adorable pups who helped create some pawsome paintings, are still looking for a forever loving home and anyone interested in adopting, sponsoring or fostering them (or the many other dogs looking for a home) can contact OSCAS at www.oscas.sg or Loyal.D at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We would like to end this piece with a short video that gives us all hope - Handsome Hanson, who lived at OSCAS for more than five years, found a forever loving home thanks to the dedication of his handler, Bernd: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSHqe4uth1Y&feature=youtu.be
